Unbelievable! That’s the word I would use to describe this season of significant change. What word would you use? In talking with family, friends, colleagues and clients – people are experiencing a myriad of emotions. One of them may be best known as grief.
I learned about the stages of grief in graduate school when I was studying for my master’s degree in human resource counseling. I also revisited the principles after my father died in 2005. My emotions were on a rollercoaster ride and I was looking for a way to exit the experience. Instead I choose to embrace, endure and enjoy the ride.
The five stages of grief in the Kubler-Ross model are: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. Mostly grief happens when you lose a loved one or terminally ill patients experience grief prior to death. Well, grief also happens when there is significant change.
My hope and prayer is that you will be wise and find peace during this season of change. Know that it’s okay not to be okay. It’s okay to ask for help. It’s okay to grieve the loss of your normal work & home life. This is also a season to find joy in the little things, to count your blessings, to reinvent parts of your personal or professional life, to slow down and breathe, an opportunity to learn, grow and be a catalyst for change. Find wisdom to create your path that leads to peace. How will you choose?
