A few weeks ago 110 fourth graders, a handful of teachers and 18 adults visited Biltmore Estates, Gem Mine Company and Grandfather Mountain. It was so exciting because my two other children declined my request to attend their 4th grade field trip and when my youngest wrote in my calendar, “mom, r u going on this trip?” on the dates reserved I internally jumped for joy!! During the naturalist tour and the cougar exhibit we were all huddled around a young humming bird that had just flown into the clear wall that protects visitors and provides optimal viewing. The naturalist said, “So sad, we keep putting stickers up and people take them, can you believe that?” One of the young boy students said, “Why don’t you put the stickers on the other side?” All of the parents just smiled. Putting the stickers on the other side (they are solid black and shaped like a bird about 3 inches by six inches) would provide the visual the birds need and they would be out of reach of humans…..there is a 12 foot drop to the grass below, so it’s doubtful that people would try to hang over the glass to take the stickers.
Why keep doing something over and over again, when it yields the same result? Isn’t that the definition of insanity? What are you doing over and over again, that is not getting the results you want? Is it dealing with an aspect at work, your spouse, your child or yourself? If you are ready to do it differently, then imagine what you want it to look like and then jump in with both feet and don’t look back.
